OHIP vs. self-pay, explained by the clinic of Dr. Victoria Hayward, Chief of Plastic Surgery, Southlake Regional Health Centre.
PSSC Plastic Surgery Skin Clinic, Newmarket · Updated November 2026
If the lesion is cancerous or suspicious for skin cancer, removal is covered by OHIP at no cost to you. If it is benign and you would like it removed for any reason, including appearance or comfort, it is self-pay: from $495 + HST, or from $300 + HST for skin tags.
Either way, you do not need a referral, and your consultation is complimentary with a valid OHIP health card. Dr. Hayward confirms at your consultation which category your lesion falls into.
