Looking for somewhere closer to home to have a mole, cyst or other skin growth assessed and removed?
PSSC is located in Newmarket, and we see a number of patients who travel from Barrie and the surrounding area for assessment and removal of moles, cysts, lipomas, skin tags and other skin lesions.
One reason patients from Barrie reach out to us is timing. A referral to a specialist can mean weeks of waiting before an appointment is even available. At PSSC, no referral is required — you can refer yourself directly and book a consultation without waiting on a referral to be arranged first.
What Brings Patients from Barrie to Newmarket
Patients travelling from Barrie are usually looking for one of a few things: a faster path to assessment than what's available closer to home, a specific concern that's been flagged by another provider, or simply a clinic where a board-certified plastic surgeon performs the assessment and the procedure directly, rather than the case being split across multiple providers.
- Moles — unwanted, irritated, or flagged for a closer look
- Cysts — including cysts that have recurred after previous treatment elsewhere
- Lipomas — soft, fatty lumps beneath the skin
- Skin tags — irritated, visible, or simply unwanted
- Skin lesions and growths — where the exact nature of the growth isn't yet known
- Lumps and bumps — new, changed, or long-standing
- Keloid scars — raised, thickened scar tissue from a previous wound or procedure
Not Sure What the Lump or Growth Is?
If you've been referred by a physician in the Barrie area, or you're simply unsure what a growth is yourself, you don't need a diagnosis in hand before booking. Dr. Hayward will examine the area and determine the most appropriate next step, whether that's removal or further assessment.
Mole, Cyst, Lipoma & Skin Tag Removal
Each of these is treated according to the specific growth — its size, depth, location and history — rather than a single one-size-fits-all approach. Multiple concerns can often be addressed during the same visit, which matters most for patients making the trip from further away.

Skin Lesion Assessment & Removal
If what you're dealing with doesn't fit neatly into one category, that's a common and normal reason to book an assessment rather than wait to figure it out yourself.

Suspicious or Changing Lesions
A mole or lesion that has changed in size, shape or colour, or that has started bleeding, itching or crusting, should be assessed as soon as possible — regardless of the distance to get there. These changes don't necessarily mean something is serious, but they're a reason to be examined rather than to wait and see.

What to Look for When Choosing Where to Have It Removed
Once you've decided a mole, cyst, lipoma or other growth needs to come off, the next decision is where to have it done. A few things are worth checking regardless of which clinic you choose:
Assessment before removal, not instead of it. The growth should be examined first — its size, depth, location and appearance all affect what approach makes sense.
Who is doing the assessment and the procedure. Ask whether the same person handles both, and what their training is. A board-certified plastic surgeon has a different level of surgical and closure training than many walk-in or non-surgical options.
How scarring is managed. Closure technique affects the resulting scar as much as the removal itself does, especially for visible areas.
Whether pathology testing is available if it's needed. Not every growth requires it, but the option should exist when something warrants a closer look.
How far you'll need to travel, and whether a referral is required. For patients coming from outside Newmarket, this often matters as much as anything else — a referral requirement alone can add weeks before you're even seen.
Whether you'll understand the plan before agreeing to it. You should know what's recommended, why, what it costs, and what recovery looks like before any procedure goes ahead.
